Coola Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 Reviewed: Is it Worth the Hype?

Coola is a well-known name in the world of sun protection, and at first glance, the Coola Sun Silk Drops SPF 30 sunscreen seems fabulous – it consists of over 70% organic ingredients, protects the skin from IR, HEV light (blue light), UVA/UVB as well as environmental pollution. Unfortunately, my experience with this sunscreen was… disappointing to say the least.

I kept an open mind until the initial application, but aside from the handy pipette, problems soon became very apparent. One of the biggest issues I have with it is that it doesn’t sit well under makeup. Whenever I tried to apply foundation or any other makeup on top of it, it would slide around – super frustrating! The consistency of the sunscreen is very slippery and watery, which made it difficult to apply evenly and left me feeling unsure whether I had adequate protection. Also, it felt a bit greasy on my combination skin and didn’t seem to absorb well, which made me look rather shiny and almost reflective (not flattering at all, btw).

However, the worst part was that it consistently stung my eyes and made them water. Despite being very careful with applying it around my eye area, this sunscreen caused an uncomfortable stinging sensation every single time, which was a deal breaker for me. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the avobenzone ingredient was the likely culprit.

Another issue I had was that the SPF is only 30; I would have preferred an SPF of at least 40, given the product’s price. Speaking of which, at £46 for 30ml this sunscreen is expensive, especially considering that it underperformed in so many ways. The only redeeming features are the handy pipette dispenser and that it doesn’t leave a white cast, but these aren’t enough to excuse what is in essence, a mediocre product. Was this sunscreen even tested before being released to the general public?

I would not recommend Coola Sun Silk Drops SPF 30. While the pipette dispenser is handy, the slippery consistency, oily feel, and eye irritation left me feeling like it was a complete waste of money. I recommend anyone needing sunscreen to look elsewhere.
