I’m not proud to admit that I have next to no loyalty to lip products – I’m almost always on the lookout for the next shiny thing on the horizon and jump ship as soon as I find it. With Chanel being one of my favourite beauty brands, I was sure their Hydra Beauty Nutrition Nourishing Lip Care would tick all the boxes.
The lip balm comes in Chanel’s signature monochrome packaging, and everything looks and feels luxurious. The star ingredient in this lip balm is Chanel’s signature, camelia oil, to soothe and hydrate the lips. The formula is creamy and smooth, applies like a dream and smells heavenly. There’s no greasy residue as the balm is quickly absorbed into the lips, leaving them feeling supple and moisturised. Sadly, as much as I wanted to like this lip balm, it turned out I was allergic to one of the ingredients. A few minutes after application, my lips started feeling uncomfortably itchy/tingly, which happened every time I tried.
I eventually gave up and passed the lip balm along to my sister, who couldn’t get enough of it. The Chanel Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care is undoubtedly a well-formulated lip balm that delivers on its promises of hydration; it’s just extremely unfortunate that as much as I wanted to like this lip balm, it doesn’t work for me. Lesson learned… just because a product is well-formulated doesn’t mean it wouldn’t trigger an allergy.
But hey, my sister gets a £34 lip balm for free, so at least it didn’t go to waste!
